Another Part of Me

I love so many of Michael Jackson's songs, maybe even all of them. Here's a cover of Another Part of Me from the "Bad" album. I remember borrowing that album from my almost-uncle ( he and my aunt later split). But what an album, full of so many chart- topping singles. Every single song is filled with little details, if you listen carefully.

Kanye West on following your dreams, and dope ass beats.

Just saw this video about rapper Kanye West.

He's been criticized a lot, most notably for interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 VMA's. We all know that wasn't nice.
Anyhow, Kanye is a very talented rapper and producer, and I've enjoyed all of his albums. He brought something new and fresh when he first came out.
I thought some of the things he says in this video clip were worth transcribing, so here goes. And I promise my next post will be more about my own music.

(Selected) Transcript:
There’s nothing that makes me feel better than just the ability to create. And to get paid off  of creating, you know, that’s the dream come true. It’s not even like really work...

...On ”Touch the Sky” I ask  ”I think I died in an accident ’cos this must be heaven”.
To think that, you know, because I’m actually living my dreams...is this the afterlife, is this what they’re talking about?
And there’s ups and downs in a dream, but you got to bring it to fruition, you have to will positive energy into your life, you have to will your way. You can’t let other people control your dreams. When you walk around, that’s your life, everybody is a part of your world. So you make your decisions.
Not to be cliché, you say, you make your bed and you lie in it. That’s why I think I got a bad rep when I first came out. Because I refused to let other people make my bed.

If someone wanted me to wear a throw-back jersey in a shoot, I’d say no.
If someone wanted me to pose in front of a car with rims, I’d say no.
Even it was for the cover of a magazine, I would walk away from it.
Award shows, arguments back stage. No, I’m not singing that part, I’m not doing this part.
’Cos at the end of the day, nobody’s thinking, hey, that production guy, I really didn’t like his idea. They’re gonna be like, man, Kanye had a bad performance.
Just knowing that you reap what you sow, I try my best to sow up some, some Gucci or something :)

On another note, this clip where Kanye explains what a "dope ass beat is" is so funny, watch:

To me, this is a reminder that our limitations might be our biggest force. Don't deprive the world of your genius!

Jack Johnson Lyrics, Tabs & Chords for "You And Your Heart"

Jack Johnson - You And Your Heart
(edit April 3rd 2010: To play this song in the key of the album version put a capo on the 2nd fret)
I'm excited about Jack's new album "To the Sea". It's out on June 1st 2010.
This song is the first single from it.
This is not tabbed after the album version, which I have not heard yet, but after an acoustic version I heard on BBC Radio 2, performed by Jack Johnson and Zach Gill from ALO.
I hope I got the chords mostly right, this is at least a simple way to play the song. The lyrics were somewhat hard to hear, but I think they're about right.
Enjoy! :)

Every chord has 4 beats, except the last part of the chorus where the F and F# chords share two beats each.

Intro tab:

d ---------------------------------------------------
a -14-14-14-14-14-14-12------------------------10-12-
E ----------------------15-13-13-13-13-13-13---------

d ------------------------------------
a --------------8-----------------8---   REPEAT 2 TIMES
E 8-8-8-8-8--12---12-8-8-8-8-8-12---12

Intro: G F C C (each chord has 4 beats)

Verse: G F C C (each chord has 4 beats)

Chorus: F G C F // F C G F-->F#
(Each chord has 4 beats, except the last part of the chorus where the F and F# chords share two beats each.

C-section:
G C x 4 --> D D
G C x 4 --> D D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LYRICS:
Watch you when you say
What you are and when you blame
Everyone, you broken king
Watch you change the frame or
watch you when you take your aim
at the sum of everything

'cos you and your heart
shouldn't feel so far apart
You can choose what you take
Why you gotta break
and make it feel so hard

(intro)

You lay there in the street
Like broken glass reflecting pieces of the sun
But you're not the flame
You got the people passing by
Because you know what you don't like
It's just so easy
It's just so easy

But you and your heart
Shouldn't feel so far apart
You can choose what you take
Why you gotta break and make it feel so hard

(no F# this time around)

But you and your heart
Shouldn't feel so far apart
You can choose what you take
Why you gotta break and make it feel so hard

Go from the last F into F#, then...

Funky instrumental break:
Chords: G F x 4 then hold D for two bars (8 beats)

TAB:
e-----------------
b-----------------
g------4----------
d--5-5--------2-3- REPEAT 4 times
a-------3-3-3-----
E-----------------

C-section: G C x 4 --> D D
Draw so many lines in the sand
Lost the fingernails on your hands
How you're gonna scratch any backs?
Better hope that time will take our lines away
Take all our lines and...

G C x 4 --> D D
Hope that time will take our lines and
Hope that time will take our lines away
Take all our lines away

End on G

You And Your Heart

"Run my dear son
We've got to get to the trees
And then keep on going all the way ...
We've got to get right down to the sea"

"Water is the subconscious," says Jack, "and that water for me is the ocean. To get to the sea is being able to dig in and touch things that aren't on the surface. That reference - that ‘we've got to get to the sea' - is about a father leading his son to try to understand himself."

There's a new album on the way by Jack Johnson called "To the Sea". First single "You And Your Heart" is going to hit radio on April 6th and the album is due out on June 1st.

Here's a small MTV interview about Jack's influences, and a little preview of the single.

Other than that, there's not much information yet. I have a feeling it's going to be a great album, and I hope a little more uplifting than "Sleep Through the Static".

Happy 2010!

2010 is here! It’s going to be a great year. I just read my horoscope. Of course I don’t believe in those things, unless it says something really nice, and I think this one did.
It said “Gemini, in 2010 your serious side will come out in full force. You might discover a new professional field that fits you to a T. In view of your enthusiasm for your new profession, you might not have a lot of time for socializing”. I like the sound of that! :)

The ScribbleTunes Facebook Page is approaching 300 fans already. Make sure to sign up there if you’re not already a fan.
